Technologies with versatile applications

ZETTL technologies can be used to process critical types of waste materials. The contaminated materials are separated and, depending on the application, disposed of or further processed and reintroduced into the material cycle. This is cost-effective, environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Mercury-containing and NORM-containing drilling muds

Oil and gas drilling repeatedly produces large quantities of drilling muds that contain mercury and are slightly radioactive. These muds are processed in high-temperature paddle dryers and the mercury is distilled off and collected. The remaining mineral substances can be disposed of in standard landfills. For NORM-containing sludges, the unique ZETTL technology offers the possibility of stabilizing the NORM-containing mineral residues and depositing them in your standard landfill.

Oil-containing mineral sludges in raw materials, grinding sludges from the automotive industry

Mineral sludges are produced in oil refineries, from which the oil and possibly mercury must be separated. In many industries, metal-containing sludges are produced during metalworking. Metal chips, oil and water are cleanly separated from each other. The remaining metal particles can be made available for melting down without further post-treatment. High-temperature paddle dryers are used successfully for these applications.

Contaminated solids with and without high liquid pollutant content

Construction waste or soil contaminated with chemicals, oil, mercury or other pollutants must be separated if, following accidents in chemical plants, age-related

dismantling, accidents involving tanker trucks, etc., the solids are heavily contaminated.

Depending on the degree and type of contamination, rotary kilns or high-temperature paddle dryers can be used here. Both technologies have proven themselves in their specific applications. The cleaned soils are suitable for disposal in normal landfills after the pollutant has been removed.

Sewage sludge, used tires, batteries, composite materials, asbestos, bitumen, masonry rubble

Recycling and disposal of the aforementioned residual materials are typical applications for rotary kilns. The rotary kiln is an all-rounder, even for higher mass throughputs. For recycling tasks, rotary kilns are often operated in the absence of oxygen in order to carry out pyrolysis, a thermal decomposition process. The resulting products are biochar, bio-oil and synthesis gas and are therefore reusable recyclable materials.
